103lpi Aluminum Interspace Grid

Reina Imaging

Anti-scatter (x-ray) grids play a critical role in the radiographic imaging chain. The primary function of anti-scatter grids is to absorb scatter radiation emitted by body tissues before reaching the film / IP plate in order to increase image contrast and detail. All our anti-scatter grids come with a defect-free guarantee and are pre-qualified prior to shipping.

  • Aluminium or Fiber Interspace Grids Available.
  • Continuing only the upper lead to ensure superior efficiency in removing scattered radiation.
  • Superior quality images are achieved through the use of aluminum or fibre inter-spacers and lead strips, precisely milled to uniformity.
  • Strips are sealed between smooth aluminum covers and finished with enamel, providing complete resistance to heat and moisture and guaranteeing years of trouble free service.

Understanding Grid Ratios and Focal Distances in Anti-Scatter Grids

Anti-scatter grids play a crucial role in enhancing image contrast by reducing scatter radiation. The grid ratio, defined as the height of the lead strips to the distance between them, significantly influences this capability.

The focal distance, or grid focus, is the distance from the grid at which the X-ray beam is focused. Proper alignment of the X-ray beam with the grid ensures optimal image quality by minimizing grid cut-off.

Ideal for operational research and traumatology, parallel grids are designed for situations where exact centering is not feasible. These grids have vertical and parallel lead strips that generally run along the grid’s long dimension. To achieve clear radiographs, the focal distance for parallel grids should be between 150 cm and infinity, accommodating the divergence of the X-ray beam since the absorbing strips are not perfectly parallel to it.

Higher Grid Ratios

Enhanced Scatter Reduction: High grid ratios (e.g. 10:1, 12:1) offer superior scatter absorption due to taller lead strips.
Precise Alignment Required: These grids have a narrow focal range, demanding precise alignment to avoid significant grid cut-off and image degradation.

Lower Grid Ratios

Moderate Scatter Reduction: Lower grid ratios (e.g. 6:1, 8:1) provide less scatter absorption with shorter lead strips.
Greater Flexibility: They feature a wider focal range, allowing for more flexibility in positioning with less risk of grid cut-off.

Optimal Use

To maximize the performance of anti-scatter grids, it is essential to match the focal distance with the grid’s design specifications. This alignment ensures X-ray pass through the grid interspaces effectively and maintain image quality without unnecessary exposure.

Reina Imaging provides world-class radiological equipment and services throughout the medical field through innovative design and industry-leading construction.

Reina is a radiographic accessory manufacturing firm, dedicated to creating both form and function for the industry. We manufacture all Reina Imaging products by hand in the US to full ISO13485 standards. And while medical imaging is an enormous industry, Reina remains committed to being a friendly, small family business that is always there for our customers and their patients.

X-Ray Cassette Repair Company, Inc., d.b.a. Reina Imaging was founded in 1978 by current President and C.E.O. Leo Reina R.T. With his years of experience working as both a radiographer and serving as department manager for six years at Lee Memorial Hospital he saw potential for a niche within the general radiographic market. With a mix of quality workmanship and personal service Leo grew his reputation based mostly on word-of-mouth sales. The result was fast paced growth — creating a foundation for the value-added products offered by the company today.
