Comprehensive QA Phantoms for Modern Imaging Suites

Whether you’re calibrating a new scanner, fine-tuning protocols, or preparing for accreditation, having the right phantom makes all the difference. That’s why Imaging Solutions offers a comprehensive selection of Kyoto Kagaku QA phantoms – designed for precise, repeatable results in CT, MRI and ultrasound applications.

Used globally across hospitals, research institutions and radiology departments, these phantoms are trusted by medical physicists to streamline quality assurance and deliver consistent imaging performance over time.

Multi Energy CT Quality Assurance Phantom (PH-75A)

The PH-75A is a purpose-built QA phantom for evaluating multi-energy (dual-energy) CT imaging systems. Constructed from Kyoto Kagaku’s Aqua Slab, a material closely equivalent to water across diagnostic energy levels (40–190 keV), this phantom provides a realistic simulation of human tissue, enabling precise quality assurance.

It includes a range of plug-in inserts, such as iodine and metal, to assess HU stability, image contrast, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and artefact presence across varying kVp settings. The inclusion of empty bottles also allows for custom testing with materials like animal tissue or additional contrast agents.

Ideal for protocol optimisation and artefact reduction studies, the PH-75B supports performance evaluation in both clinical and research environments. Two sizes are available (TR-I and TR-J) to suit different scanner configurations and testing scopes. Whether you’re fine-tuning spectral imaging protocols or validating contrast media performance, this phantom is a versatile tool for medical physicists working in advanced CT QA.

MRI Quality Assurance Phantom (PH-31, MHR)

The PH-31 MRI Quality Assurance Phantom is designed to facilitate comprehensive evaluation of MRI system performance. It enables assessment of critical parameters such as slice thickness, spatial resolution, image uniformity, geometric distortion and contrast.

Constructed from durable acrylic resin, the phantom maintains uniformity under high magnetic fields up to 3.0 Tesla, ensuring high-precision evaluations. The set includes two phantom units (A and B), liquid paraffin suitable for 3T MRI, and five nickel dichloride (NiCl) contrast solutions with concentrations ranging from 5 to 25 mmol.

With dimensions of approximately 22 cm in diameter and 14 cm in height, the PH-31 is compact and easy to handle. Its design and included materials make it suitable for routine QA procedures, ensuring consistent and reliable MRI system performance.

Breast Ultrasound Phantom (US-4)

Reliable QA in breast ultrasound is critical for early detection, consistent imaging, and ongoing equipment assurance – and the US-4 Breast Ultrasound Phantom is designed to make that process practical and repeatable.

This phantom includes eight test targets for assessing critical performance parameters including:

  • Dead zone depth
  • Vertical and horizontal distance accuracy
  • Axial and lateral resolution
  • Sensitivity and low-contrast lesion detectability
  • Penetration depth

It also features a range of embedded targets such as anechoic cysts, hypoechoic tumours, and high-contrast structures, enabling thorough evaluation of the system’s ability to visualise anatomical variations and subtle differences in echogenicity.

Key technical highlights:

  • Constructed from Kyoto Kagaku’s proprietary ultrasound gel for a realistic scanning feel
  • Compatible with both linear and convex probes
  • Measurement grid and scanning surface provide convenient alignment and positioning
  • Long shelf life with no need for refrigeration

The US-4 phantom supports consistent QA processes across screening, diagnostic and research settings, helping teams maintain the highest standard of care.
