Compass Edge™ Enterprise Gateway
Laurel Bridge Compass Edge™ is a powerful enterprise gateway designed to enable secure, efficient cross-enterprise workflow orchestration across complex healthcare environments. Positioned at the edge of hospital infrastructure, Compass Edge acts as a critical bridge between on-premise systems and cloud-based archives, ensuring seamless, controlled data movement.
Engineered with expanded and scalable cache capabilities, Compass Edge optimises performance by intelligently managing imaging and clinical data closer to the source. This edge architecture reduces latency, supports high-volume data exchange, and enhances business continuity while maintaining strict security and compliance standards.
By connecting hospital systems to cloud archives with reliability and control, Compass Edge empowers healthcare organisations to modernise their infrastructure, streamline workflows, and support scalable enterprise imaging strategies.
Fast, Flexible, Cost-Effective Workflow
By pulling data from an expanded cache, Compass Edge significantly reduces download traffic and associated costs, particularly in cloud-based installations:
- Intelligent, queryable study cache optimizes data retrieval from cloud archives to reduce egress bills while ensuring data concurrency with the source of truth
- Enable on-premises or cloud-based DICOMweb to traditional DICOM archives to serve use cases of truth
- Increase imaging throughput in low bandwidth and/or high latency with optimized edge file system access
- Easily manage equivalence criteria to ensure concordance between primary archive and Compass Edge cached data
- Flexible implementations and real-time extendable storage better support image service line growth
- Automatic QA including notifications for incoherent data (e.g. instances with same study instance UID but different patient IDs, etc.) ensures data integrity
Take Your Imaging Workflow to the Next Level
Compass Edge can be extended to include the many capabilities of the Compass™ Routing
Workflow Manager, or deployed in combination with Navigator™, Waypoint™, or the AI
Workflow Suite (AIWS) to create a complete solution for order, prior exam, and AI imaging
workflow orchestration.
Enhanced Cross-Enterprise Communication
By acting as a proxy between hospital nodes and off-site cloud archives, Compass Edge improves communication efficiency and ensures greater resiliency of business continuity infrastructure.
Compass Edge leverages all of the benefits of the Compass Routing Workflow Manager, including:
- Traditional DICOM to DICOMweb and DICOMweb to traditional DICOM workflow
- Multiplex routing to multiple cloud or on-premises archives/VNAs
- Pass-through and translation of non-image related DICOM traffic (e.g. C-FIND or QIDO)
- Flexible normalization and tag morphing rules
- On-site modality aggregator
About Laurel Bridge Software
Laurel Bridge Software is a leading provider of secure, highly configurable enterprise imaging workflow solutions that simplify even the most complex workflows.
With thousands of installs in over 40 countries, Laurel Bridge is trusted by top healthcare institutions worldwide to provide cutting-edge, cost-effective solutions designed to streamline diagnostic workflows, ensure seamless interoperability, and empower timely and accurate results, resulting in exceptional patient care.
Since 1986, Laurel Bridge Software, Inc. (LBS) has been developing leading edge technical software and medical imaging systems. Beginning as a collaboration with engineers from Blair Computing Systems, Inc. and well-known medical printers and medical disc publishers , our engineering teams have developed our own DICOM software libraries and adapted other DICOM libraries many times over, and have been involved in some of the earliest development of medical imaging routers, filters, and storage systems beginning in the early 1990s.
Today, Laurel Bridge continues to be a critical component in medical imaging infrastructure, enabling diverse systems across the enterprise to cohesively “speak” with one another, creating pathways for medical images to reach radiologists at the right time, in the right way.
