The company was founded in 1950 with headquarters in Lauf, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The name Erler-Zimmer was composed from the family names of the founder Johannes Erler and his son-in-law Walter Zimmer.
Today the company is run by Ute Probst, the daughter of Walter Zimmer and her husband Walter Probst. The sons Patrick and Mathias Probst are shareholders since 2015, the company is 100% family owned.
